Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir together were once again a part of the news. On the day Royal Challengers Bangalore had a victory against their opponents Lucknow Super Giants by 18 runs, Virat and Gambhir entered into a fight. Both legendary personalities of Indian cricket had a heated exchange. Most may remember that this not the first time they had confronted each other.

More than 10 years ago, Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir confronted each other was in RCB vs KKR match in Bengaluru. Kohli does not lead RCB now except on some special days. Gambhir has taken retirement and is working as a global mentor at Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). The aggression between the two legends however, refuses to die down now also.

The incident appeared to have from the moment seemed to be in-game sledging. This moment involved Kohli and LSG’s Naveen-ul-Haq when the latter came to bat during the second inning.

In the last ball of the 17th over of the second inning, Siraj gave a bouncer to Naveen, and it was declared a no-ball. Naveen failed to use the free hit and Siraj gave the player a stare and threw the ball into the stumps at the striker end. Naveen was then seen having a word with the Bangalore’s pacer. Kohli intervened them and started having a go at Naveen, who also gave it back to him.

Things must have gone for the worse if Amit Mishra, senior to both Virat and Naveen, would not have intervened and separated them off.

Here are some points related to this Kohli- Gambhir spat:

Kohli doing the finger on the lips gesture

After RCB’s 18-run, Kohli wasn’t able to control his emotions. He then silenced the crowd at the Lucknow stadium by showing finger on lips gesture. Kohli tried to get back at Gambhir, who displayed the same at Bangalore’s Chinnaswamy Stadium when LSG won the match against RCB.

Handshakes after the match

After RCB’s win in an emotionally revenging contest, Kohli and Naveen Ul Haq had to be separated as they had a heated conversation during handshakes. Naveen shook Virat’s hand tightly and was not letting it go. He said something and Kohli shook it off. This was the reason that the RCB’s batter took a couple of step back. Later Virat Kohli replied to Naveen, which was calmed down by Glenn Maxwell interference. Maxwell was able to avoid the physical fight between them.

After the post-match rituals, LSG’s opener Kyle Mayers was seen having conversation with Virat Kohli. It seemed to be a normal talk but Gambhir came in between and took Kyle Mayers away with him.

Gambhir and Kohli have a heated spat

Something poked both Gambhir and Kohli and they got involved in a heated spat after the match. Kohli looked like he wanted to clear out things. He was trying to explain the incident to Gambhir by putting a hand on his shoulder. But in seconds, things turned ugly and both were set to have a go at each other. Kohli and Gambhir were seen having a heated talk and had to be separated by players like Du Plesis and KL Rahul.

KL Rahul and Kohli talking with each other

KL Rahul took Kohli aside with him, to have a chat. While having a discussion, Kohli reminded KL about Gambhir’s gestures in their last match. Where the later was shushing the crowd at the bangalore stadium.

Both Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir are fined 100 percent of their match fee. Whereas Naveen is fined 50 per cent of his match fee for breaching IPL’s code of Conduct in the match.

Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir’s old IPL rivalry

This was not the first time when these two have clashed in IPL. Ten years ago too Kohli and Gambhir involved themselves in an ugly spat in Bangalore at the Chinnaswamy Stadium. Gambhir as a captain of KKR at that time had a go at his counterpart Kohli, while he was celebrating his wicket. Things poked with Kohli instead of going back to the pavilion he walked towards extra short cover and made a remark.

Suddenly, Gambhir walked angrily towards Kohli. However, it was Rajat Bhatia, who got in and separated them. Otherwise things might have been worse.

Naveen-ul-Haq against Mohammad Amir and Shahid Afridi in the LPL 2020

It was not the first time that Naveen-ul-Haq was involved in an on-field fight. During a Lanka Premier League match in 2020 also Naveen had indulged in a verbal argument. It was with Mohammad Amir and Shahid Afridi. Naveen and Amir, were seen having a heated spat after the match ended.

When the team came for a handshake, opponent Shahid Afridi also came out for a handshake but he appeared angry with Naveen-ul-Haq.
